Formal intonative analysis: intsint applied to Portuguese
Leticia Corrêa Celeste, Cassius Reis
Journal of Speech Sciences · 2(2), 3-21 · 2012
What the paper examines
This paper applies the INTSINT intonation-coding approach to Portuguese. It examines a formal way to represent pitch movements so that patterns can be described and compared in phonetic research.
Reading it in context
A coding scheme is an analytical representation of recorded speech. The choices made in detecting and labeling pitch events shape what can be compared; they do not by themselves establish a clinical interpretation.
A question to read with
What does each label encode, and what information is lost when a continuous contour is summarized?
